Wale Bringing His Ambition To 'RapFix Live'

Maybach Music rapper will join Sway on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com to talk about his sophomore album.

In February, Wale joined Rick Ross' Maybach Music roster. Since then, the D.C. rapper has been counting down until the release of his sophomore album, Ambition, which drops Tuesday. This Wednesday at 4 p.m. on MTV.com, Wale will sit down with Sway on "RapFix Live" to give fans some insight into his state of mind, 24 hours after the project's official release.

In anticipation of the album's debut, Wale has already rolled out the singles "Slight Work" featuring Big Sean and the title track "Ambition," which features his MMG cohorts Rick Ross and Meek Mill. One of the most buzzed-about collaborations, however, is the Kid Cudi-featured "Focused," which caused a splash thanks to a very public falling-out between the two rappers last year and an equally public reconciliation earlier this year.

"When they kept talking about me and Cudi in every magazine, this is the record I felt like they needed to hear," Wale told MTV News. "The one that everybody was going to get behind, and it was going to go top 40 and not be corny."

During his recent "Road to Release" series on MTV2's "Sucker Free," Wale revealed that he was much more selective about features this time around, including about half the amount of guests who appeared on his debut, Attention: Deficit. "We kept the features to a minimum because I wanted to give you more of me than I did on the previous project," Wale explained.

Attention: Deficit debuted in November 2009 — with features from artists such as Lady Gaga, Bun B and Gucci Mane — to a lukewarm reception. Some of the album's lackluster performance on the charts was attributed to under shipment from Wale's former label Interscope Records.

Not one to be deterred, Wale followed up with the August 2010 mixtape More About Nothing, which became a trending topic on Twitter. This year, he scored a major hit with the single "600 Benz" from Maybach Music's Self-Made Vol. 1 album, and he dropped another popular mixtape The Eleven One Eleven Theory in August.

Tune into "RapFix Live" this week to hear what Wale has to say about his journey to Ambition. Tweet your questions for Wale @MTVNews with the hashtag #RapFixLive.

Eddie Murphy, Brett Ratner Can't Agree On 'Beverly Hills Cop 4'

'Tower Heist' director tells MTV News he's 'hoping' to get sequel made, while Murphy seems to have counted out the movie franchise.
By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

There seems to be two varying opinions on whether "Beverly Hill Cop 4" will ever happen. Ask the attached director, Brett Ratner, and he'll tell you he wants to make it happen with Eddie Murphy. But the response is ... rather different if you put the same question to the A-list actor.

MTV News recently caught up with Ratner as he promoted "Tower Heist," out this Friday and starring yes, Murphy. The director sounded hopeful about another "Cop" sequel.

"I think one day, I'm hoping, because it is one of the most iconic characters ever," Ratner told us. "Eddie does not go anywhere in the world where they're not like, 'Axel Foley, what's up?' more than 'Eddie Murphy.' It is something that our hope and desire is to get it made."

Much like he did with MTV News, Ratner has spoken on several occasions about his hopes for a fourth movie featuring the legendary Axel Foley, a Detroit cop who finds himself solving crimes in the very posh Beverly Hills.

In the latest issue of Rolling Stone, however, Eddie Murphy tells the magazine that the possibilities for a fourth "Beverly Hills Cop" film are dead.

"They're not doing it," Murphy told the magazine. According to the actor, the proposed screenplays didn't really support the making of a new film. "None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn't be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong," Murphy says.

But Murphy has other ideas for the beloved character. "What I'm trying to do now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley's son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit," Murphy revealed. "I'd do the pilot, show up here and there."

Ratner himself acknowledged the challenges involved with revisiting the "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise. "It's a hard nut to crack, especially since there are three that exist before that. It's a hard thing," Ratner admitted, before adding that the three films allow him to see what worked in the series and what didn't.

HGTV, LA and Dining Room Tables

I've been watching a lot of HGTV since coming to LA. My favorite shows are House Hunters and House Hunters International. There's also another show I like to watch called For Rent, but only because it makes me angry.

When it comes to apartments/homes, I think living in New York for the past eleven years has made me bitter because there was this whiny broad on For Rent a few nights ago who was looking at a huge place—A HUGE PLACE—and was like, "There's no place for a dining room table..."

B*TCH, YOU'RE LUCKY TO GET A KITCHEN IN NEW YORK.

I hated her.

Now there's some stupid lady on House Hunters who wants a townhouse with a fireplace that she can turn on with a light switch. IT HAS TO BE A LIGHT SWITCH because she doesn't want to bend down and flip a switch on the floor.

WHO DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE?

Anyway, I know my LA update is WAY overdue (and truth be told I wrote a long one last week but for some reason it didn't save so I lost the whole thing and I was so angry that I just said, "Ah, f*ck it," and closed the computer instead of rewriting) but to give you a quick update, I AM SO HAPPY HERE. I MEAN, I'M REALLY, REALLY HAPPY. And I think living here and watching HGTV—both of these things combined—has made me realize that New York was just beating me down. I mean, the fireplace lady—yes, she's an idiot. But there's nothing wrong with wanting a dining room table. Why did I get so mad at that lady?

Since being here, at least once a day I ask myself why I have lived in New York for so long. (It's like I had Stockholm Syndrome or something.) CALIFORNIA IS AWESOME. It's like the promised land. It's sunny all the time and there are birds and flowers everywhere. I have space out here. I have a sofa on the patio out here. I HAVE A SOFA OUTSIDE. I haven't seen one rat since I've been here. But hummingbirds? THEY ZIP BY MY HEAD EVERY DAY. I am so happy.

I'm supposed to go back to New York in November, but truth be told, I'm not sure I will.

Keri Hilson Attacked on Stage (Video)

A fan encounter for Keri Hilson turned a little scary a couple of weeks ago when a fan attacked her on stage. While performing on October 9th in Paris singer Keri Hilson got quite the surprise and it was not a good way. A very over excited fan literally rushed the stage while Hilson was singing. Although there was security around the fan actually grabbed the singer before being subdued by her bodyguards . It was later revealed that the fan had jumped from the second story balcony in order to get himself on stage, that some scary shizz I tell you. Hilson of course being the class act that she is seemed to take it all in stride. She later tweeted this message to the man that just had to be near her. To the guy who ran on stage & stole a kiss, I LOVE YOU TOO. Didn?t appreciate how u were handled. But next time, enjoy from the audience I have to say pretty cool that she handled the whole thing that well, pretty sure I would not have handled it that classy. I am sure it was scary for her but I like that she is [...]

Grimm?s Debut Last Night: What Did You Think?

Did you catch Grimm’s debut last night? DVR’d it because of the World Series (congrats to the Cards, btw) and even though I’m not one for any bit of gruesomeness, I found myself hooked from the get go. Again, I can’t stress enough how much I really don’t watch or read anything horror related, so for me to even sit through a show like this for more than two minutes speaks volumes. Heh. It certainly held my interest. If you missed it, no worries, NBC will re-air Grimm tonight at 9:00 PM EST! Check out some video highlights from the show below. How did Grimm’s debut fare in the ratings? Yes, it did go up against Game 7 of the World Series, but it did pretty well, considering, garnering 6.49 million viewers. The show did a good job of introducing us to the characters and was easy to follow. Nick (played by David Giuntoli) is a homicide detective who finds out from his sick aunt (played by the amazing Kate Burton) that he is in fact the last of the Grimms, which explains why he can see the crazy zombies and we can’t. And so the premise is set. He [...]

Coldplay Cover Rihanna's 'We Found Love'

'I can't wait to hear it,' Rihanna tweets of version band performed on BBC Radio 1.
By Jocelyn Vena

Coldplay's love affair with Rihanna continued this week when the band stopped by BBC Radio 1 on Thursday. The Brits put their moody spin on "We Found Love," the pop star's Calvin Harris-produced track.

Their version, which was performed on the radio station's Live Lounge series, mirrors the melancholy lyrics of the song, about wanting to be with someone despite knowing that it's all going to end anyway. Lead singer Chris Martin's haunting vocals and the band's acoustic rendition, using drums, piano and guitar, play up the sadness of the track.

The performance was a nearly flawless interpretation of the song, minus a hiccup at the very beginning. As an alarm sounded, Martin giggled a bit delivering the first few lines.

If you're wondering what Rihanna thinks of it, you're going to have to wait a little bit longer. In the midst of putting the finishing touches on her own album, she hadn't yet heard the Coldplay cover. "I can't wait to watch/hear it RT @Sean_Hansen: Not a big fan of cover songs but @coldplay's version of @rihanna's WFL is just superb!" she responded after a fan tweeted about the song.

BuzzWorthy: Why We'd Love To See A Video For The Cover

Rihanna appears on Coldplay's just-released album, Mylo Xyloto, on the heartbreaking track "Princess of China."

"Her bit on our record is my favorite bit. ... When the song came out, it sort of asked for her to be on it. And I think at this point, we have nothing to lose, and so we've been trying some new things and trying to break down the perceived boundaries between different types of music," Martin explained to MTV News. "Because from where we're sitting, it seems like you can try and sound any way you like nowadays. You don't have to be in a rock box or a hip-hop box or a pop box, and I think it's fun when you embrace that idea."

"We Found Love" is the house-heavy lead single off Rihanna's Talk That Talk album, which drops November 21. Its video, directed by Melina Matsoukas, is in keeping with the album's tone, according to Matsoukas herself.

"I think it sets up definitely the imagery for the album and it's in line with what they're doing," she told MTV News shortly after the video dropped. "So that's good, and I'm sure there's plenty more, hopefully. I'm not sure, but [we'll see]. She called me after, and she loves it and I love it."

'Breaking Dawn' Stars Gush About Each Other

We look back at our favorite Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner quotes before Thursday's 'MTV First,' at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

It's hard to escape what everyone else is saying about the stars of "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" — whether it's fans gossiping about Rob and Kristen or teen girls fawning over Taylor's abs — but what do the three biggest stars from "Twilight" have to say about one another?

We've looked through stories from our years of "Twilight" coverage and compiled our 10 favorite quotes that Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner have said about each other in advance of our "MTV First" with the cast of "Breaking Dawn" on Thursday, November 3 at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV.

Here is what the stars had to say:

» "She's more stubborn than me in a lot of ways. She really stands up for what she thinks is right. It's generally on the same page with what I think is right, but I never have the balls to do it." — Rob on Kristen during "New Moon"

» "She looked amazing. I really didn't do anything much but just stand there." — Rob on Kristen in her "Breaking Dawn" wedding dress

» "I didn't see Taylor until just a little bit before we started shooting ['New Moon']. When he came back, I had the same reaction as everybody else. I was like, 'Jeez, now I have to go to the gym!' " — Rob on Taylor's "New Moon" abs

» "It's fun to watch with [Taylor Lautner], because we actually sit and watch it. Me and Taylor are actual 'Twilight' fans, so we can sit there and be totally into it! Whereas I sit there with Rob ... he likes it, but he has just such a different energy." — Kristen on watching "Twilight" with Taylor

» "You're so cute." — Taylor on Kristen

» "I don't feel like kissing you!" — Rob to Kristen at the MTV Movie Awards

» "It was really fun to see Kristen try and act all tough, and she's a vampire and she's chucking me across the yard into trees. It was funny." — Taylor on Kristen throwing him around in "Breaking Dawn"

» "It's not tough when you're working with someone like this. She's extremely talented, and we get along really, really well." — Taylor on working with Kristen during "Breaking Dawn"

» "He's really buff! He definitely is. It took him a lot of time." — Kristen on Taylor

» "It's just totally false ... Rob and I are good friends." — Kristen on rumored relationship with Rob

Don't miss "MTV First" with Rob, Kristen and Taylor on Thursday, November 3, at 7:56 pm ET on MTV, when the stars will introduce a never-before-seen clip from "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" and answer your questions afterward on MTV.com.

Michael Myers: From 'Halloween' To MTV's Killer Halloween

Horror-movie icon ushered in the modern era of slasher films — but is he the best cinematic killer of all time?
By Kevin P. Sullivan

Michael Myers in "Halloween"
Photo: Dimension Films

We're just about halfway through MTV's Killer Halloween, and the competition is just heating up in the battle to find out which movie murderer tops them all.

So far, we've profiled Freddy, Jason, Leatherface, Chucky and Ghostface, but now we look at the man who ushered in the modern era of slashers.

Which horror-movie baddie has the best personality? Make your pick in our MTV Movies Blog poll!

Michael Myers
Occupation: Homicidal boy, homicidal adult

Weapons: Knife, inability to ever freaking die

Archenemy: His family, his psychiatrist, anyone who gets in the way of him killing his family and his psychiatrist

Profile: Michael Myers was a bit of a prodigy in the ways of serial killing, changing the game even as a young boy. Pre-teen Michael may have been the first to don a mask — a creepy clown one for his first murder — and go after the babysitter, his sister Judith. He spent the remainder of his youth in an institution for the mentally disturbed under the close observation of Dr. Sam Loomis. After Michael escaped, stealing a mask, jumpsuit and knife from a hardware store, movie serials have never been the same.

The target of most of Michael's deadly attention has been his surviving sister, Laurie, the lead played by Jamie Lee Curtis in the first two films and "Halloween: H20" and Scout Taylor-Compton in the Rob Zombie remakes. The early films simply focused on Michael's obsession with finding his long-lost baby sister, but later in the series, the true origin of Michael as an embodiment of pure evil added a supernatural element to the villain.

There has never been too much to Michael Myers' tactics. He stalks. He walks. He kills. His style of murder will be remembered for a number of reasons. His mask, an old William Shatner "Star Trek" mask painted white, has become a horror icon. His slow gait and silent disposition directly inspired dozens of imitators — Jason Voorhees, most famously. Modern slasher films owe a debt to Michael Myers and his creator John Carpenter, whose work has affected the genre for generations.

Where do you think Michael Myers falls in the scope of horror-movie psychopaths? Let us know in the comments!

'X Factor' Castoffs Dexter Haygood, Phillip Lomax Open Up

The Brewer Boys also lament their early elimination, as five contestants were sent home after first live episode.
By Jim Cantiello

On Tuesday night, it was time to face the music. And for five "X Factor" contestants, the music said, "Thanks, but no thanks."

Throughout the epic live "X Factor" debut, the judges axed five hopefuls they had been personally grooming, turning a top 17 into a top 12. MTV News was granted exclusive press access backstage to speak with the first batch of eliminated finalists just minutes after they were dropped from the show.

"I killed it tonight. That's what I feel, man!" said Memphis rocker Dexter Haygood, who delivered an over-the-top cover of Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" under Nicole Scherzinger's tutelage. During the early audition episodes, America fell in love with Haygood's infectious energy and emotional life story, which included everything from living on the streets to fronting Xavion, the first African-American rock band to be featured on MTV.

"I'm just happy to be moving on, somewhat," said Haygood, who chalked up his onstage confusion during elimination to feeling overwhelming pressure. "Let me tell you something: Being in a competition is a lot of stress. I'm not happy to be off, but it's a good feeling knowing that the competition [has ended]," Haygood said before rocking a sports metaphor: "If you don't win the Super Bowl, you're glad the damn season is over."

A downtrodden Phillip Lomax aimed to focus on the good things about his time on "X Factor." "I'm obviously disappointed, but I have to look at this in a positive light and realize that I've accomplished what not many people have," the crooner said as the sound of a cheering studio audience echoed the halls of CBS Studios.

Earlier in the show, Phillip's swinging "I'm a Believer" raised some questions about song selection among the judging panel, but Lomax insisted he was happy with what L.A. Reid picked for him. "I definitely played a hand in [picking that song] as well," said Lomax, who got as far as he did in the competition due to his dead-on Frank Sinatra impersonation, which he abandoned for the poppier Monkees hit Tuesday night. "I thought it was a good song. Definitely out of my comfort zone, but I decided to go with what my mentor told me to do and I had faith. I still have faith. I'm still a believer," he chuckled before censoring himself. "Sorry, that's way too corny."

Meanwhile, teen sibling duo the Brewer Boys, who both sport Bieber hairdos, were at peace with their elimination, courtesy of teary mentor Paula Abdul — or, as they insist on calling her, "Miss Paula." They'll never forget Miss Paula's "hands-on" mentoring, as well as her gaggle of Chihuahuas they befriended during the judges' home episodes. Keep your eyes peeled for the duo — who performed a bizarre mash-up of Hall & Oates' "Rich Girl" and George Michael's "Faith" on Tuesday — as they hope to hit the road, but in the short term, the only thing on Justin Brewer's schedule is chilling in bed and playing a ton of "Call of Duty."

Lomax, likewise, has no beef with mentor L.A. for letting him go. "I think he's an outstanding guy. I wish that he made a different decision, obviously, but he could only take three, and those three guys are outstanding as well. It's a shame he didn't pick me," the aspiring actor shrugged before wandering the halls of CBS Studios to say his goodbyes and hopefully bump into Kim Kardashian, who was spotted nearby at the "Dancing With the Stars" stage.

There was no time to chat with Simon Cowell's eliminated girls, Tiah Tolliver and Simone Battle, who were favorites of the Brit but were never well-liked by his fellow judges. Minutes after the show went off the air, they briskly grabbed their belongings and jumped into a production van to take them back to their hotel.

MTV's 'True Life' To Explore Occupy Wall Street

MTV embeds in Zuccotti Park to get real story in 'True Life: I'm Occupying Wall Street' airing November 5 at 6 p.m. ET.
By Gil Kaufman

It's one thing to watch footage of the Occupy Wall Street protests on TV and hear the nightly news pundits give their two cents on the global movement. But what if you could live among the protesters and get a real sense of how the Occupy movement is taking shape and why it's become a phenomenon?

MTV did just that, embedding with the protesters for an upcoming "True Life" special set to air Saturday, November 5, at 6 p.m. ET. "True Life: I'm Occupying Wall Street" will visit the financial district sit-in and profile a group of 20somethings who've pitched their tents amid the skyscrapers of Wall Street to see how they're feeling about the event.

The special episode will take you to the front lines as MTV cameras follow three young people who get swept up in the political movement that has quickly grown into a global phenomenon. Viewers will be introduced to Bryan, one of the leaders of the Occupy sanitation team. You'll watch as he steels himself against a potential fight with the city when he fears that their request to clean the park is an excuse to evict the protesters.

"This needs to happen now, or it's over," Bryan is seen telling his fellow protesters about cleaning up the park before the city's mandatory deadline, which helps motivate them to collect trash, sweep up and scrub graffiti from the ground with hand-held brushes. "As worried as I was," he says, "it was amazing to see that as it really came down to the wire, people were willing to just do whatever it took to get the park clean."

The protests come at a time when the future seems grim not just for the millions who've been out of work and looking for jobs for several years, but for a younger generation that is just entering their prime earning years. In fact, 72 percent of young people surveyed by MTV over the past two years are afraid they won't live up to their potential, with nearly three-quarters of those age 18 to 29 feeling "things are unfair for my generation because we have to start our careers during this economic crisis."

They've found that the game has changed and the old equation for success that promised that college plus extracurriculars, summer internships and huge student loans would lead to a fulfilling job that helps pay off those loans — just doesn't compute. Many feel as if the rules have been altered on them and that they've been cheated.

David Banner, Tom Morello, Kanye West and Talib Kweli have also joined the Occupy Wall Street protesters throughout their month-long demonstration.

The problem for young protesters like Bryan is who do they turn to? Their parents, the government? Many believe it no longer matters who's in charge in Washington because none of those big money politicians has any answers. That might be why this group sees Occupy as a kind of war their generation must wage, one that might not end soon, but which they support because it allows them to speak out against corporate America and voice the concerns they have about not being able to find work. That also explains why nearly half (45 percent) have postponed a major life milestone (marriage, having children) because of the economy or their employment situation.

Click through to "Voices From Occupy Wall Street" — our interactive photo gallery — and get to know 20 young demonstrators' motivations, hopes and goals.

A recent MTV survey of young adults (ages 18 to 29) about economic conditions, the government and its impact on their generation found that 93 percent feel that the current economic situation is having a personal effect on them; 72 percent don't trust the government to take care of their well-being. A whopping 76 percent said they're worried about the future of our country. And they're not just fretting about themselves. More than 62 percent said they feared for their parents' ability to retire in this economy and 66 percent said they wish there was some leader, outside of a political one, who could speak to their generation's needs.

"I feel stressed out about it," 18-year-old Adalee recently told MTV News. "As a [Hispanic] college student relying on financial aid to get through school ... and with all the budget cuts, it's a stressful situation ... But if the economic crisis worsens or is not resolved soon, it won't matter how much financial aid we get, more than likely it won't be enough to cover tuition."

The nation has watched this anxiety amplified by Occupy demonstrations across the country, as a small gathering of activists in Zuccotti Park in lower Manhattan has spread across the globe spanning hundreds of cities. When it came to those MTV surveyed, among the 69 percent who said they were aware of the Occupy protests, 57 percent supported the movement.

"True Life" viewers will also meet college students Kait and Caitlin, who are so worried that they won't be able to find jobs after graduation that they set out to recruit their friends to join the cause as they work to keep spirits high among the occupants.

What do you think about the Occupy Wall Street movement? Let us know in the comments.

Justin Bieber, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Mary J. Blige and Maroon 5 have been added to the ever-expanding list of performers for the 2011 American Music Awards, joining a roster of talent that already includes Katy Perry and Pitbull.

While most of this year's performances are being kept under wraps, a spokesperson for Dick Clark Productions announced Monday (October 24) that Aguilera and Maroon 5 will team up on their current smash "Moves Like Jagger" at this year's AMAs, which will air live on ABC on November 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

Earlier this month, in a nomination special hosted by Pitbull and Nicki Minaj, it was revealed that Perry would head into the show as one of the night's most-nominated acts (along with fellow females Adele, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift), up for Artist of the Year, Pop or Rock Music: Favorite Female Artist and Adult Contemporary Music: Favorite Artist. It's somewhat fitting, given not only the rather huge year she's had, but that she also delivered a full-throttle version of her hit "Firework" at last year's AMAs.

For the fifth year, American Music Award winners will be determined by online voting. Fans can support their favorites in all categories by heading over to AMAVote.com.

The 2011 American Music Awards will air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 20, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

'Three Musketeers': Five Things You Need To Know

Before seeing Orlando Bloom and Logan Lerman in action, check out these fun facts.
By Eric Ditzian

Orlando Bloom and Milla Jovovich in "The Three Musketeers"
Photo: Summit Entertainment

When you're sequestered in a London hotel during the finest weekend of U.K. weather that anyone in that virtually sun-free territory can remember, you tend to learn a few things. People get a little loopy. They speak off the cuff.

Such is the situation MTV News found itself in earlier this month during a press day for "The Three Musketeers," when we ended up learning a few surprising things about director Paul W.S. Anderson's 3-D take on the classic Alexandre Dumas novel, an adaptation that stays true to the original's creative core but takes joyful liberties no one in the 17th century could ever have imagined. Read on for five rather surprising things you need to know about "The Three Musketeers," which hit theaters Friday (October 21).

Lerman's Crazy Hair
As we first noticed when set photos popped up last year during production, and as posters and trailers have subsequently made clear, star Logan Lerman rocks a very Jim Morrison-like hairdo to play D'Artagnan, a young chap looking to join the vaunted Musketeers. But Lerman didn't grow his hair out for the role, nor did he slap on a wig every day.

"It's extensions," he told us. "It was really uncomfortable. A wig would have been a more comfortable choice. I felt ridiculous walking around [off set]. I just had a beanie on all the time."

Bloom's Anti-"Pirates" Preference
At this point, after the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, Orlando Bloom approaches anything involving swords and seafaring with caution. What attracted the actor to "Musketeers" was that his director didn't want him, for once, to play the good guy.

"They wanted me to be part of the movie as Duke of Buckingham, as opposed to playing one of the Musketeers," he said. "That sold me. The idea that I got to be the kind of villain, sort of a bad boy, bit of a rogue. Lot of fun. Fun, fun, fun! I get to be an arrogant prick and get away with it!"

Jovovich's 3-D Assets
Milla Jovovich, who just so happens to be married to Anderson, insisted on doing all her fight training while wearing a corset -- a noble, if highly uncomfortable, decision. For her husband's film, though, she was willing to do whatever was necessary, including showing off her assets for Anderson's 3-D cameras.

"I did have to prepare a lot to make my cleavage what it was," she said. "I had to eat a lot of pasta and get cinched really tightly into the corset to get the effect and let the girls do the acting for me. Each one took classes. Stanislavski. I think the left one is more talented than the right."

Bloom's Rock Star
Not only does the Duke of Buckingham act differently than Bloom's "Pirates" good guy, he also dresses completely differently, often slipping into high heels and maintaining a wardrobe that contains every color you'd find in the rainbow (and many you would not). To pull it all off, Bloom turned to '70s-era rock and roll.

"The Duke had a questionable sexual background, no one was quite sure what his sexual flavor was or how many flavors he liked to participate in," Bloom explained. "He's a very outspoken and outrageous character. So for me, I just got to swagger through it all. You don't want the costumes wearing you. You've got to wear the costumes.

"Paul wanted the Musketeers to be superheroes and for me to be a kind of rock star. So I went with David Bowie from Ziggy Stardust," he added. "He wore some of those outrageous costumes onstage. So with the Duke, he just owns every square foot that he steps in. He's like, 'This is all my territory.' "

Anderson's Da Vinci Inspiration
Easily the most eye-popping features of "The Three Musketeers" are the fantastical airships he introduces to 17th-century Europe: part ship, part hot-air balloon, totally steampunk. In the film, the ships are said to be built from Leonardo da Vinci's actual designs. The truth, however, owes more to artistic license than Renaissance ingenuity.

"We did take our inspiration from his real etchings of airships," Anderson told us. "We felt that Da Vinci had designed so many extreme, futuristic things that we could take the liberty of saying this is one of his designs and have this flying galleon."

'Paranormal Activity 3': The Reviews Are In!

Critics are generally positive, although most point out similarities between latest entry and its predecessors.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

Paranormal Activity 3

This Halloween is the third in a row that the shaky-cam, faux-documentary series "Paranormal Activity" has released an entry into theaters, and critics agree that "Paranormal Activity 3" shares more than just a filming style with its predecessors.

While the critical consensus is generally positive, most reviews note how similar the new "Paranormal" is to the two that came before it. This could be seen as a good or bad thing depending on how you feel about the first two films. There are new scares filling out a quiet, homespun frame, but not much else.

Check out our roundup of the reviews, and be sure to read MTV News' five reasons to check out "Paranormal Activity 3."

As a Sequel
" 'Paranormal Activity 3' is a prequel, revealing that the characters in 'PA1' and 'PA2' had already been through the all-night video surveillance ordeal. At least in this film they are undergoing it for the first time, which is less than can be said for us. The formula for the films involves pallid characters, perfunctory dialogue and very long waits for something to happen." — Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

The Director
"Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost have fun with the archetypal image of a white-sheeted costume ghost, but mostly what they're aces at is timing. They know just how to thread a handheld camera up the stairs, down a hallway, and into the scattered bric-a-brac of a middle-class children's bedroom, settling at just the right moment upon a talking teddy bear that plays as a joke, even as a part of you momentarily thinks: Is that bear possessed?" — Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

The References
"Having been handed the entirely uninspiring challenge of fattening up the 'Paranormal' origin story (pop culture mythology in the making, or not), directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (the doofuses behind the 2010 is-it-or-isn't-it-a-sham-doc-about-an-Internet-sham, 'Catfish') reach into their kit bag of plot elements from, and references to, a whole bunch of older horror movies that most of their target demographic likely hasn't seen. A bit of 'Rosemary's Baby' here, 'The Shining' there, 'Poltergeist' there, not to mention some Japanese stuff, and, of course, 'Blair Witch' itself, particularly at the end." — Glenn Kenny, MSN Movies

The End
"As usual, the climax, in which the family makes the mistake of retreating to the sweet grandmother's (Hallie Foote) house, replaces the air of mystery with an all too explicit explication for what's been going on. But it does effectively fulfill its requirement of setting things up for the inevitable next installment. One doesn't need a Ouija board to discern that it will probably arrive sometime around next Halloween." — Frank Scheck, The Hollywood Reporter

Bottom Line
"Like its predecessors, the movie is more clever than good, and if you feel as if you're being manipulated by the filmmakers, it's because you are. That's the fun of these movies, something you know going in. The point is to manipulate you in the scariest way possible, and 'Paranormal Activity 3' does a good job of that." — Bill Goodykoontz, Arizona Republic

I'm here! I'm here! And I saw my first gang-banger get arrested yesterday so I feel like a total Angeleno.

I'm getting ready to go to the gym (again, like a total Angeleno!) so I will update later about my run-ins with Alexander Skarsgard, Pauly Shore, and Jeremy or Jason London (I'm not sure which one it was and seeing if I could force him to do drugs to find out seemed unfair. Besides, as it turned out, he was telling the truth?)

Anyhoo, I've got a lot to tell you about gardening! (Did you know if you get dirt wet it turns into mud? Yuck.)

Britney Spears Director Leads Us Through 'Criminal' Video

Chris Marrs Piliero takes us behind the crime sprees and 'sexy time.'
By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Vanessa White Wolf

Jason Trawick and Britney Spears in "Criminal"

Britney Spears and real-life boyfriend Jason Trawick go on a sexy crime spree in her new "Criminal" video, which follows the pair around London as they hold up banks and convenience stores in between NSFW scenes of the duo getting physical in their hideout.

MTV News caught up with the director, Chris Marrs Piliero, who opened up about casting Trawick and the video's use of guns, leading us through the clip frame by frame.

The video opens with Spears and her rich boyfriend at a glamorous get-together. But things are not as pretty as the party itself. "So here we are at the fancy-schmancy par-tay, [and] one of my directions for her little turnaround reveal was in 'Can't Hardly Wait' when Jennifer Love Hewitt ... walks into the party. ... The actor who plays her d-----bag boyfriend, his name is Freddie, and actually it's his first acting role."

Britney then goes into the lady's room to cry about Freddie's jabs at her, and when she comes out, she sees him flirting with another woman. "For this, I wanted to come up with a really cool line," he said. "I was trying to come up with something that had attitude but was TV-safe, so we went with that," he explained about Britney's crack "So, you're not working the street corner tonight, I see."

Can The Director Make Britney A Movie Star? Vote Now >>>

When Britney does leave the party, dragged out by her boyfriend, Trawick's bad-boy character comes to the rescue. "The punching was just awesome," Piliero said. "We were watching that, and we were all looking at each other like, 'Is he really hitting him?' "

Of course, Spears gets in her kick to his groin too. "I love her face when she goes for the kick," he added. "She's so good at delivering those fun lines."

Eventually, Brit and Jason's attraction takes over, as they share a kiss and then a whole lot more. "It's time for sexy time," Piliero joked of their naked romp. "So during the bed sex scene, the first take that we did of it, I let the camera roll. ... From that point on, I was just calling out stuff, just directing them ... and it was a really smooth, comfortable experience, actually. And Jason is ripped beyond belief. It's kind of ridiculous."

Britney soon gets caught up in Jason's world of crime. Her first offense? Holding up a convenience store, where she also grabbed some vanilla candles, a nod to her real-life love of them. "There she is yelling at the guy," he said. "That was fun. She really got into it.

See Just How Jason Got Ripped For The Video >>>

"[The] slo-mo shot of them running out [was] very, very cool," he continued. "I love when Jason just kind of throws the woman to the side."

Between crime sprees, the two make time for a very revealing shower scene. "Sexy time in the shower, which is just super hot," he said. "We did the shower scene after the bed scene.. so it was pretty painless and smooth."

The video ends up with the cops closing in on the pair with a parade of bullets being shot into their flat before they make their getaway, driving off into the sunset together.

"We got a bunch of cops here ready to shoot," he said. "Obviously, there's a lot of crime history here. That's why they're ready to go crazy and fire on them. To me, it's awesome to see this shot [because] this is exactly how I pictured it. Their kiss is magical and badass. It's a really epic, cool-looking scene."

Variety's 5th Annual Power Of Youth: A Complete Look

Paying tribute to good deeds done by the young stars of Hollywood, Variety's 5th Annual Power of Youth event was held in Hollywood, California on Saturday (October 22).

Taking place at Paramount Studios, honorees including Hayden Panettiere, Chloe Moretz, Hailee Steinfeld and Bailee Madison joined alongside one another to receive their commendations.

With seven celebrities receiving Power of Youth awards for giving back to society, the other three do-gooders toasted this time around were "Glee" star Darren Criss, "Modern Family" actor Rico Rodriguez and "Two and a Half Men" actor Angus T. Jones.

Getting plenty of support from their fellow Tinseltown pals, stars out in support of the charitable recognition included actress Debby Ryan, along with singers Rebecca Black and Greyson Chance.

Meanwhile, Miss Steinfeld recently penned a message about being picked as a Power of Youth recipient, in which she told, "I am really excited that Variety chose me and that I have had a chance to do some work with Share Our Strength. I have been so fortunate in my own life; I?ve never struggled with hunger and I can?t imagine how it feels to be uncertain of meals or access to good food."

She added, "The thing I liked most about the No Kid Hungry campaign was that they already had a solution to ending childhood hunger. So, there?s enough food in America and there are these wonderful food programs ? like school breakfast and lunch and summer meals ? but they are just not reaching enough children. An important part of what the No Kid Hungry campaign does is improve these programs and make sure that they are connecting with the kids who need them. That seemed so sensible!"
