'Cowboys & Aliens': Everything You Need To Know!

As Jon Favreau's flick hits theaters, we lasso up all the details about the much-anticipated flick.

"Cowboys & Aliens" may be lassoing its way into theaters on Friday (July 29), but the movie's journey to the big screen began a long time ago in a galaxy ... well, not so far away.

The current incarnation of Jon Favreau's adaptation of Scott Mitchell Rosenberg's 2006 graphic novel is a far cry from what the director had originally envisioned. When we first heard about the project back in '08, it seemed to be shaping up to be "Iron Man 2.0," with Favreau directing, "Iron Man" screenwriters penning the script and Robert Downey Jr. pegged as the flick's leading man.

"Cowboys & Aliens" was initially set to begin filming in 2009, but with Downey Jr. unsure about committing to the role and Favreau still not officially onboard, things were still up in the air.

Also by then, the "Cowboys & Aliens" script was in the capable hands of "Star Trek" writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, who admitted that they had veered from the source material.

In January 2010, Downey Jr. parted ways with "Cowboys & Aliens." Fortunately, things started looking up only two days later, when it was announced that Daniel Craig was in talks to replace the "Iron Man" star as protagonist Zeke Johnson. In addition, the movie was set to start filming in July, potentially in 3-D.

The casting announcements continued flowing in, including Olivia Wilde who came onboard as the movie's leading lady. With the majority of the major players set to go, "Cowboys & Aliens" was given a July 2011 release date.

In April 2010, rumors began to swirl that Harrison Ford would join "Cowboys & Aliens". Favreau confirmed on Twitter that Han Solo himself would star opposite Craig and Wilde, making this one of the coolest casts around.

The casting news just kept coming, with Noah Ringer, Sam Rockwell, Adam Beach, Paul Dano, Keith Carradine, Clancy Brown and Walton Goggins added as well.

The buzz for the flick continued to grow right through to its 2010 Comic-Con presentation, where fanboys salivated at the news that Wilde had filmed a nude scene just days before the event.

But it wasn't until November that the rest of the world got a taste of what was in store. The first trailer arrived on November 17, and Favreau stopped by MTV's offices to offer his own commentary on it. Then in February, another exciting new trailer aired during the Super Bowl. MTV News was lucky enough to get Favreau back for more trailer dissection.

Plenty more "Cowboys" trailers followed, as well as clips.

In mid-July, MTV News headed to Montana, where we chatted with the cast, including Craig and Wilde. Not long after that trip, Favreau stopped by our San Diego headquarters to talk about the movie's big Comic-Con world premiere. It was the nerd event of the convention.

Steve Carell Talks Emmys and Fatherhood in Interview

Since 2006, Steve Carell has received an Emmy nod each year -- but never an actual Emmy -- for his role as goofball manager Michael Scott on The Office. And now that he has officially stashed away his "World's Best Boss" mug and left the show, Sept. 18 will be the actor's final shot at winning gold for the hit NBC sitcom.

So, will the sixth time be the charm? Carell doesn't seem too sure.

"I wouldn't put money on it that I would win, but it would certainly be nice," the 48-year-old actor tells iVillage. "I’m going to go with an open mind and an open heart."

Though Carell has moved on from The Office gang (though he swears they all keep in touch!), he can currently be seen on the big screen starring in the hilarious new romantic comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love. (in theaters July 29). Yet the real-life dad of two says raising his kids -- Annie, 10, and Jonny, 7 -- is the best role he's ever played.

"I'd like to think I'm a good father," he says. "You're generally good at the things, or better at the things, that you enjoy, and that’s something that I enjoy more than anything."

Watch our exclusive video interview to find out whether Carell is a strict dad and why he says he hit the jackpot when he married his wife Nancy 15 years ago.

'Smurfs' Cast Imagines Navigating NYC -- In Miniature

'I've always been fascinated by what really goes on in the subways,' Neil Patrick Harris tells MTV News of what he'd do first.

"The Smurfs" are three apples high, as the legend goes, and in this week's big-screen adaptation of the beloved children's cartoon, Hollywood takes a stab at re-telling the tale for a new generation of kids.

The 3-D tale (with some CGI) is voiced by an A-list cast, including VMA-nominated Katy Perry, George Lopez and Alan Cumming, to name a few. In the movie, the Smurfs land in the Big Apple, where they end up staying with expecting newlyweds played by Neil Patrick Harris and "Glee" star Jayma Mays. Of course, they're also trying to stay as far as possible from their nemesis, Gargamel, played by Hank Azaria.

The little creatures find themselves in some silly situations as they try to navigate the big city. When MTV News caught up with Harris, Mays and Azaria in New York, we asked what they would do if they suddenly found themselves having to survive the city in Smurf-sized bodies.'

"I've always been fascinated by what really goes on in the subways," Harris said.

His onscreen lady love, Mays, agreed, "That's a good one," before warning him, "but then the rats would be bigger than you. So that'd be a little scary."

"Maybe I'd sneak into really fun buildings," Mays added. "I would get into clubs that won't let me in now."

Harris later quipped of a popular Broadway show, "You could sneak into the 'Book of Mormon.' That's a hard ticket to get right now."

The actor who plays the movie's bumbling bad guy had a less glitzy answer. "If I were three apples high and I lived in New York, I would sneak into the Mets game. That's what I'd do," Azaria said. "And I'm blue, so they'd probably just mistake me for some kind of mascot. I'd wear orange to go with it. You see Gutsy's beard there? It's orange; that's Mets colors right there. I'm sure Gutsy is a Mets fan."

'Breaking Dawn' Star Taylor Lautner Praises 'Dream' Directors

'Twilight' heartthrob tells MTV News that working with pros like Bill Condon and John Singleton has helped him grow as an actor.

Taylor Lautner has had quite an impressive career for a 19-year-old. Since "Twilight" came out in 2008, he's worked with some of Hollywood's biggest stars and hottest directors and is primed to become the film industry's next big action star when "Abduction" hits theaters in September.

MTV News caught up with the "Breaking Dawn" actor at San Diego Comic-Con, and he talked about getting the opportunity to work with and becoming more comfortable around so much A-list talent.

"All the directors in the 'Twilight' franchise have been amazing, [and] ending with Bill Condon, who's just a dream," Lautner said, "and then John Singleton [on 'Abduction']. And then all the actors and actresses I've been surrounded by, really, I couldn't have done it without them, but they have definitely helped me throughout the past few years."

With "Abduction" and "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" both wrapped and set for release this fall, Lautner will be busy with press for those films but he also has some free time on his hands. And while the actor doesn't have any projects lined up right now, he told us he's looking at some possibilities.

"We're reading a lot [of scripts] right now and we will probably make that decision while I'm promoting," he explained. "I'm gearing up because in two weeks, I'm off to the races. I start off in Australia and then I'm around the entire world for 'Abduction,' and then once again for 'Breaking Dawn.' "

Lautner added that he would love to do a comedy after the good feedback he got for his Funny or Die sketch "Field of Dreams 2." He also teased that something could come of his recent meeting with director Gus Van Sant and screenwriter Dustin Lance Black.

But Lautner is really looking forward to spending time with fans, many of whom would visit his "Abduction" set in Pittsburgh. The actor said he was always thankful rather than distracted by their presence.

"There's moments where it could impede the job, but I'm able to stay focused and be in character when I need to and snap right out of it and go over and talk to the fans and be with them for a while and go right back into it, which is great, because I have a lot of fun with them and I love them coming out and hanging with us," he said.

'Star Trek 2' Close To Locking In Director J.J. Abrams

Since finishing 'Super 8,' Abrams working on 'Trek 2' script.
By Terri Schwartz

JJ Abrams

Trekkies and J.J. Abrams fans alike can rejoice, for the "Super 8" director is at long last close to committing to helm "Star Trek 2." Now that Abrams can no longer use his stock answer — "The truth is that my focus has been so much on finishing 'Super 8' " — to avoid giving any "Star Trek 2" updates, Deadline has confirmed that he is working with the flick's writers and is close to committing to direct the sequel to his hit "Star Trek" reboot.

This must have been the "announcement" Abrams promised MTV News would be coming "soon" back at the "Super 8" premiere in June. But it also means that the film will miss its intended June 29, 2012, release date.

That's good news for "G.I. Joe: Cobra Rises," though, which Deadline is calling "G.I. Joe: Retaliation." The entertainment news site has learned that Paramount is planning on giving the June release date to the "G.I. Joe" sequel and slating "Star Trek 2" for either winter 2012 or summer 2013.

Either way, Paramount has agreed to be ready to jump into production on the flick whenever Abrams is. Abrams is now sitting down with writers Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman to polish up the "Star Trek 2" script, which Deadline is guessing will begin production in January.

MTV News caught up with Damon Lindelof at San Diego Comic-Con, where he chatted about the current status of the script. "There was a lot of work going on over the course of the last year between Bob [Orci] and Alex [Kurtzman] and I," Lindelof said. "We generated, like, a 90-page half-script half-treatment based on some meetings that we've had with J.J. [Abrams]. Now that J.J. is finally finished with 'Super 8,' we've kind of, not thrown out that material, but we're reworking a lot of it."

He added that the final product of the script will hopefully improve upon the sequel the same way "Batman Begins" improved upon "The Dark Knight." " 'Trek 2' has to be better than 'Trek 1,' " Lindelof said. "It has to."

Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga Support Berry Family After Tragic Accident

Uncle of orphaned, injured Texas children calls outreach 'amazing.'

On July 3, the Berry family suffered an incredible tragedy. Parents Joshua and Robin Berry were killed in a car crash, while brothers Peter, 9, and Aaron, 8, were paralyzed, possibly for life, and remain hospitalized. Their younger sister, Willa, 6, was also injured, but suffered only broken bones. In the weeks since the crash in Texas, celebrities have been doing their part to help raise money for the care of the three young children.

Using the power of social media, everyone from Justin Bieber and Britney Spears to Lady Gaga and Usher have asked their fans to "Show Your Hearts" with donations at showyourhearts.org and via text message (texting BERRY to 85944 donates $10). Their call to arms has meant the world to Matt Berry, the kids' uncle.

"My wife had this family member in the Justin Bieber camp, and when the accident happened ... they reached out to us and asked how they could help," he told MTV News on Thursday. "So, it's been pretty much organic from their reaching out. Right after the accident, he was asking for their names and praying with his mom for the kids. It's not something we expected would happen, obviously.

"So, my understanding is that he wanted to do something to help, and the best way they could help was to create awareness," he continued. "They have a lot of friends and contacts. And then, of course, once their campaigns started going, it looked like a lot of people joined it because I think everyone had some sort of feeling of empathy."

The family is still mending: Peter and Aaron's "lifelong conditions" have been amplified by the loss of their parents; meanwhile Willa is still trying to come to terms with the incident.

Matt Berry said of all the public support they've received has "definitely helped." "Anything that goes to help the kids in their predicament [helps]. I don't know how long it will continue. I'm not someone who likes to be in the public eye, so it's a little bit awkward, but it's amazing.

"It's a little bit overwhelming," he added, but he said that right now, the family is taking it "day by day" as they deal with the aftermath of such a tremendously tragic turn of events.

"If it was up to us, we'd pray that they were able to stand up in a couple of weeks and walk out of the hospital, but the likelihood of that happening is low," he said, adding that the boys are readying for rehab to try to heal in any small way. "There's been a lot of people supporting us, and that's huge. The ultimate dream is if in their lifetime, there's enough momentum to figure something out and fix spinal-cord injuries. We've got two of them that need something special."

"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" Premieres in Los Angeles

It's one of the summer's most-awaited movies, and the stars were out for the Los Angeles premiere of 20th Century Fox's "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" on Thursday night (July 28).

Held at Grauman's Chinese Theatre, cast members James Franco and Tom Felton greeted fans and media lining the red carpet while leading lady Freida Pinto brought her beauty to the festivities clad in an eye-catching green frock.

Also on hand for the west coast film debut were actors Andy Serkis, Jamie Harris, David Oyelowo and Loretta Devine, as well as director Rupert Wyatt and producer Peter Chernin.

Of the filming process, Mr Franco recently dished about what it was like working alongside Mr Serkis, as he said, "On set, Andy would be dressed in an outfit that looked like gray pajamas, with a ton of wires around him and a small camera at the end of a wire armature pointed at his face to capture his expressions. He looked nothing like a chimpanzee, but he was so good at capturing the behavior of a chimpanzee that I guess my actor?s imagination took over. It was like acting with a chimpanzee who has amazing acting instincts."

"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is set "in present day San Francisco, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy."

The film will be swinging into theaters worldwide beginning August 5th.

'Bachelorette' Ashley Hebert Regrets Wasting Time on Bentley

'Bachelorette' Ashley Hebert Regrets Wasting Time on Bentley

It's not always easy to tell who's for real on a reality TV show -- and as The Bachelorette's Ashley Hebert learned the hard way, it can be even tougher from the other side of the camera. Now down to two bachelors, J.P. Rosenbaum and Ben Flajnik, Hebert says her one regret is the time she wasted on two-faced contestant Bentley Williams. On the upcoming Men Tell All special, she gets surprisingly emotional about Bentley's betrayal.

Early front-runner Williams exited abruptly three weeks into season 7, giving Hebert an emotional speech about how he needed to return to his daughter... and then told the cameras that he was leaving because he wasn't attracted to Ashley. Now, Hebert says she feels mortified that she didn't realize what was happening.

"I've seen how everyone reacted to what happened with Bentley, and that's been really hard -- figuring it out when everyone else did (and) feeling like a fool," admits Hebert, who hated watching herself "being played on national television (and) being called an ugly duckling."

But, she says, the worst part isn't the humiliation; it's that she wasted so much time and emotion on someone who wasn't worth it.

"If I could go back, I'd change that," says the 26-year-old dentist. "Wasting a lot of time is probably my biggest regret."

Fortunately, it sounds like she doesn't have any regrets about who got the rose... but we won't find out for sure until the Monday finale! In the meantime, we can look forward to more confessions on Sunday night's Men Tell All episode, airing 9 p.m. on ABC.

'Avengers' Star Clark Gregg Backs Marvel TV Show

'S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Coulson really lend themselves to a TV show,' actor says about his 'Iron Man' and 'Thor' character.
By Aubrey Sitterson

Clark Gregg

Though you might not know him by name, if you've seen many of Marvel's recent superhero flicks, chances are you'll recognize Clark Gregg. The actor plays Agent Coulson in three Marvel movies — "Iron Man," "Iron Man 2" and "Thor" — and will reprise the role in next summer's "The Avengers."

Coulson is one of the few prominent roles in Marvel's expanding cinematic universe that isn't based on a pre-existing comic book character. Appearing first in "Iron Man," Coulson is an agent of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, better known by the acronym S.H.I.E.L.D., and has been seen trying to wrangle both Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark as well as Chris Hemsworth's Thor, with a bureaucratic demeanor frequently played for laughs.

In an interview with MTV News, Gregg discussed the future of his silver-screen character in regard to some future television appearances. "It's been revealed today that I'm already doing 'Ultimate [Spider-Man],' " the actor explained, "which is about Spider-Man and a couple other soon-to-be-released Marvel superheroes who are hiding out undercover in a high school in New York, and Agent Coulson is hiding out as their principal, keeping an eye on them and taking things way too seriously."

Even more exciting, however, was the mention of a potential future television show focused on S.H.I.E.L.D., the premiere global peacekeeping force in the Marvel Universe — like an international "X-Files" for superheroes. While a S.H.I.E.L.D. series hasn't been formally announced, the idea clearly appeals to Gregg.

"In a lot of ways, S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Coulson really lend themselves to a TV show because it's normal people," Coulson said. "It's real people dealing with extraordinary things."

Would you watch a S.H.I.E.L.D. television series? Tell us below!

"There's moments where it could impede the job, but I'm able to stay focused and be in character when I need to and snap right out of it and go over and talk to the fans and be with them for a while and go right back into it, which is great, because I have a lot of fun with them and I love them coming out and hanging with us," he said.

Victoria Beckham and Emma Bunton Share Parenting Tips

The Spice Girls are now Spice Moms!

Emma Bunton (formerly known as Baby Spice) shows off her adorable son Tate in the new issue of Hello! magazine and reveals that she and another very famous new mommy have been in close contact throughout their pregnancies.

Bunton says that she and fellow Spice Girl Victoria Beckham were able to share their pregnancy experiences and then welcomed their babies just weeks apart. Bunton gave birth to Tate -- whose daddy is her fiance Jade Jones -- in early May, while Victoria and hubby David Beckham welcomed their first daughter, Harper Seven Beckham, on July 10.

"We've been swapping bits of advice and photos and sharing our excitement," she said.

But Posh wasn't the only Spice Girl showing her love.

"The first bouquets through the door were from Victoria, Geri (Halliwell) and Mel C. They came with little notes and that is always special to me, to get those from the girls," Bunton said.

"The relationship we girls have will always be special. Now our kids are friends too, and as they grow, it will be wonderful to watch them all and the different stages in their lives."

It's so nice to know that the relationship between these ladies has stood the test of time. And next it will be the ladies' turn to send flowers to yet another pregnant Spice Girl -- Mel B!

'Battleship' Trailer: The Five Key Scenes

We see a whole lot of Brooklyn Decker's skin and an alien ship, but blink and you'll miss Rihanna.
By Eric Ditzian

Photo: Universal Pictures

"Battleship" may be based on a board game, but the action flick's first trailer shows an influence far more cinematic than anything having to do with little plastic pegs and the faux-sinking of tiny seafaring vessels. The new footage, which Yahoo! premiered on Wednesday (July 27), begins like an ode to a "Blue Crush"-ish beach make-out movie, veers into "Armageddon"-esque father-vs.-daughter's-boyfriend antagonism, then explodes in an orgy of a couple dozen alien-invasion movie references.

Totally original, this one ain't. But it's also pretty damn entertaining, and we really are looking forward to checking out the madness when it hits theaters on May18, 2012. Until then, here are our picks for the five key "Battleship" trailer moments.

Brooklyn, Obviously
One of these days, Brooklyn Decker is going to get a movie role that doesn't require her to parade around a beach in a bikini. Or not. One thing is certain after checking out this footage and taking in her performance, such as it was, in Adam Sandler's "Just Go With It": Decker, the Sports Illustrated model, has been typecast. In "Battleship," she finds herself in the middle of one of cinema's oldest relationship pickles: in love with a bad boy whom her dad can't freaking stand. Clearly the relationship between the boy (a naval officer played by Taylor Kitsch) and the daddy (Liam Neeson's no-nonsense admiral) will factor into the battle with these aliens. Let's just hope it doesn't become the emotional focus.

Don't Tread on Me
Everything in the Navy's military exercises in the big blue ocean seems to be going well until they encounter a hulking contraption submerged in the water. One unlucky dude (Kitsch) is sent out to touch base, literally, with the alien ship, unleashing a whole lot of extraterrestrial terror. The aliens, we'll soon learn, are here to utilize our oceans as a power source. This one shot raises a bunch of questions. Why are the ship's defenses activated by simple touch, rather than the proximity of the Navy? What kind of tech do the aliens possess that they can send a sort of shockwave that hurtles a man so far, so quickly? And what's inside the ship that we don't yet see?

What a Big Bubble You Have!
Speaking of alien weaponry, the ship is capable of unleashing some kind of bubble force field that encompasses an enemy and, so it seems, destroys everything within it. We'll just ignore, for now, how the bubble reminds us of that containment unit in "The Simpsons Movie." Instead, let's concentrate on the alien tech. We're hoping for originality and cool visuals to join forces and deliver us a satisfying early summer movie experience. The bubble, perhaps, is the harbinger of fun, absurd, eye-popping stuff to come.

She Needs an Umbrella
"Battleship" marks Rihanna's big-screen debut. In the trailer, blink and you miss her. But she's there, standing up in a raft and looking wet as the alien craft flies overhead. She certainly looks freaked out. But we can't yet get a sense of her acting chops from this footage; and hey, we might not be able to even after this popcorn flick's credits role. All we can say for now is she had a blast on the production. "Working with [director] Peter Berg is unbelievable," she told us last fall. "I love doing movies now. It's something I want to do more of. I just want to pick films that are wise for me and roles that I can pull off, nothing that is too big for me."

Taking Flight
We have to say we're surprised how much of the alien ship we get to see in this first trailer. We see how it's a craft that can both plunge into the water and also take flight. We see how it can transform and shift and hover; quite a lot of control, those aliens have on this sucker. We see its cylinder-shaped weaponry. We see the front of the ship almost seems to have a face. So the question is: How much did filmmakers hold back? We haven't, for instance, seen the aliens themselves. With so many alien flicks hitting theaters each year, it's getting harder and harder to surprise audiences with those creatures. Can "Battleship" do it? Stay tuned.

Jesse James & Kat Von D Have Split!

Another Hollywood break-up, this time it’s Jesse James and Kat Von D who have decided to part ways. I thought these two were a perfect match, didn’t you? Ahh, but that’s Hollywood for ya! Jesse told PEOPLE, “I’m so sad because I really love her. The distance between us was just too much.” Jesse lives outside of Austin, Texas with his three children, Chandler, Jesse Jr. and Sunny, while Kat makes her home in L.A., of course. Long distance relationships are rough. It can put a strain on any romance, no matter how in love you may be with each other. You can’t really have a relationship with someone if you’re apart more than you are together, which is more than likely what happened with Jesse and Kat. The two became engaged earlier this year and you could tell they were very much in love. James gushed about Kat and was ‘honored that she said yes’ when he asked for her hand in marriage. Kat told PEOPLE at the time that ‘he’s the one’. When asked if she had any plans to move to Austin to be with James, she said, “If only it were that easy. Having two places [...]

Jennifer Lopez Celebrates 42nd Birthday in Miami

Jennifer Lopez Celebrates 42nd Birthday in Miami

Jennifer Lopez announced her split from husband Marc Anthony just nine days ago -- but she's not exactly the type to sit around moping in sweatpants! This weekend, the singer celebrated her independence -- and her 42nd birthday -- with a lavish vacation in Miami.

The celebration kicked off on Friday, when guests joined Lopez and her 3-year-old twins, Emme and Max, for a swim in the pool and dinner at The Forge restaurant.

"Jennifer and her group arrived around 9 p.m. and went directly to the private wine cellar for a pre-birthday dinner," a witness tells People. "It was very secluded and beautiful among the bottles with bold and vibrant labels. The meal was served on a long rectangle mirrored table with cloud-like chandeliers hanging above."

And that was just the warm-up! Us Weekly reports that Lopez did some expensive shopping at Bal Harbour Shops on Saturday, picking up fancy baby outfits at Bonpoint and scoping the designer goods at Hermes, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino and Pucci. That night, she treated her entourage of 16 -- including her mother Guadalupe, sister Lynda and manager Benny Medina -- to a luxurious dinner at the oceanside Italian restaurant Scarpetta.

"Jennifer looked radiant in a purple and silver evening dress," a witness gushed to People. "And when they brought out her birthday cake after the meal, she began to sing. She was very happy. The whole group had a blast, staying for hours. They closed down the restaurant."

Lopez's actual 42nd birthday arrived on Sunday, and she celebrated by partying on a private yacht in an Emilio Pucci bikini and matching head scarf. (It's the matching head scarf that truly separates J. Lo from the rest of us mortals.)

By all witness accounts, Lopez was happy and relaxed all weekend. Accordingly, friends tell Us Weekly that the divorce has brought her more relief than stress.

"(Jen) is jumping back into work and being a mom with all her energy, and she is really excited," says one source close to the star.

We're glad to hear she's excited about starting over -- and we can't imagine a better way to do it than on a yacht, surrounded by friends and family.

At Comic-Con 2011, actor also tells MTV News about meeting Russell Crowe, his co-star in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot.

SAN DIEGO — Plenty of fans were surprised when news broke that the release date for Zack Snyder's Superman reboot, "Man of Steel," was pushed back six months to June 14, 2013 — but none more so than the would-be superhero himself, Henry Cavill.

"They broke it to me gently," he told MTV News on Saturday (July 23) at San Diego Comic-Con. "I was just told the other day. It's OK, it's nothing to do with me. That's stuff which I have no control over. I just focus on the character and do my job."

Speaking of stepping into the shoes of the iconic superhero — or tights, rather — Cavill said he's "prepared enough" but anxious to start production. "I'm really raring to go," he said. "It's exciting, humbling, and about time to get started."

Of course, Cavill couldn't divulge many details about the upcoming shoot or what his fellow cast members may or may not be doing in the film, but he did provide a delightful anecdote about his first meeting with co-star Russell Crowe (who is playing his father, Jor-El).

Cavill recounted one of the very early days in his acting career when he worked as an extra in a film Crowe was shooting at his school. "I walked up to Russell, shook his hand, and said 'I'm thinking of becoming an actor. What advice do you have?' He said to me ... No, I won't say what he said," Cavil said with a smile, indicating that his response might have included a swear word or two.

"Two days later, I received an Aussie rugby jersey, a [CD] and a signed picture from 'Gladiator' [with a note that read] 'Dear Henry, A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, Russell.' Cut to 11 years later, at what is the high point of my career, and here we are."

Report: Kristin Cavallari & Jay Cutler Call Off Engagement

Looking as if a long life of happiness together wasn't in the cards, Kristin Cavallari is reportedly no longer engaged to marry Jay Cutler.

With the pair having gotten engaged back in April while having been together for ten months, an insider tells People magazine that the reality star and her Chicago Bears QB beau have pulled the plug on their marital plans.

Of the news, the People source dished, "She was hanging out at a table with Nicky Hilton and Alessandra Ambrosio. She was telling friends how she called off the engagement."

The nixed engagement comes after Jay was alongside Kristin to offer support as she walked the runway during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week SWIM in Miami just last weekend.

'Amazing Spider-Man' Star Shows Nerd Cred At Comic-Con

Andrew Garfield describes 'surreal' moment: 'I felt like I was Spider-Man,' he tells MTV News.
By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

SAN DIEGO"The Amazing Spider-Man" swung into San Diego Comic-Con on Friday (July 22), and star Andrew Garfield made sure he came ready to talk about the comic book influences he drew from for his performance.

Part of what makes Garfield so endearing in the role is his passion for the character of Spider-Man and his love of the comic books. When he chatted with MTV News, he showed off his nerd cred by dropping comic book names when describing the suit and physicality he used for Peter Parker.

"The body time in the Ultimates is what I loved," he explained. "Because I'm skinny, if you hadn't noticed; I'm a skinny guy. I love the idea of a skinny guy beating the crap out of big guys just as a personal fantasy fulfillment."

But there was more to his performance than that. Garfield made sure he was very specific with his body movements and his physical appearance because he wanted to make a point of bringing more to the evolution of Peter Parker to Spider-Man than the previous films did.

"One of the elements that I was interested in was doing something with his physicality," Garfield said. "I wanted it to be like the venom, the spider bite, was doing something specific to his DNA ... In life, imagine like he has more arms than he does, more legs than he does, and more of a special awareness."

Fans have finally had a chance to take a look at "The Amazing Spider-Man" thanks to a trailer that debuted earlier this week. But, as a huge fan himself, Garfield had a bit of a difficult time rationalizing to himself that he was actually Spider-Man.

Garfield said there was only one moment in which he felt like he was Spider-Man instead of going through some strange out-of-body experience that wasn't really happening. "I was in a changing room on my own, and I could be honest with myself. I was really moved by it because no one else was around," Garfield said. "It was genuinely very, very emotional, and it felt surreal. It was the only moment where I felt like I was Spider-Man."

Mila Kunis Used a Butt Double in 'Friends with Benefits'

Mila Kunis Used a Butt Double in 'Friends with Benefits'

Mila Kunis may have one of the best bodies in the business, but that doesn't mean she's comfortable with baring all! In her latest movie, Friends with Benefits (in theaters today), Kunis and costar Justin Timberlake have a lot of (simulated) sex and show a ton of skin -- but Mila drew the line at showing off her bare derriere.

In fact, the 27-year-old actress -- who has never seemed like a shy person -- admitted on Ryan Seacrest's radio show that she used a butt double for some of the more graphic scenes. "I showed side boob and I figured I can't just give away everything all at once," Kunis told Seacrest. "I gotta let it all out in little pieces here and there."

That said, Kunis didn't want just anyone's butt to stand in for her own. So she, director Will Gluck, the film's casting director and the makeup artist held a casting call for Kunis' butt double -- and watched a parade of women moon them so that they could make the best decision!

"These young ladies came in," Kunis said. "And these lovely women had to show us their derrieres, and we chose the one that resembled my body the most without looking like it's fake."

While Kunis was reticent to flaunt her naked butt, her costar was not. Though Timberlake jokes that he's tried to "get into the editing room to cut down on my ass time," he seems at peace with the world gazing at his bare bum. "I only did it because I'm young now, and everything's where it's supposed to be," the 30-year-old actor told Vanity Fair. "I figured this is the time, before gravity gets the best of me."
