Does Britney Spears want a new gig? The singer reveals that she would love to be a judge on American Idol, just like one of her personal American idols: Jennifer Lopez.
"I would (want to be an Idol judge)! That would be awesome!" Spears, 29, gushes to Harper's Bazaar. "I wouldn't be a tough judge, though."
Becoming an Idol judge may not be a stretch, since Britney seems to have finally made the shift from rebellious teen to musical professional. She tells the magazine that her newfound maturity has a lot to do with the lessons of parenthood.
"I think things through a little bit more, and I worry a lot," says Spears, the mother of sons Sean Preston, 5, and Jayden James, 4. "I'm more straightforward, and I speak up more than I did before. When I was younger, I wouldn't speak up as much, but now that I'm a mom, things have changed." (The singer, who's dating former agent Jason Trawick, says she's open to marriage and more kids "if the timing is right.")
Spears also voiced her opinions about some of her competition in the pop world. Lady Gaga, she says, is "unique and extremely talented. I love her spin on everything." Rihanna -- with whom she teamed up on a remix of Rihanna's hit song "S&M" -- is "really cool." Justin Bieber, on the other hand, reminds her of herself as a teenager.
"I think he's adorable. I just saw his movie, and I really didn't realize how big he was," Spears admits. "A lot of the movie is really similar to what I did when I was starting out. I did a promo tour for a year, going into radio stations and all that. It was so cool to see our similarities."
As for her former mentor Madonna, she still feels a debt of gratitude.
"I actually saw her a couple of weeks ago at a party. I guess she's really taught me to stay true to myself," says Spears. "That seems like a simple thing to say, but she taught me through action, not just by saying it. There are so many people around you that have opinions, but you just have to listen to your instincts."
Whatever Britney's instincts are telling her now, it seems to be working -- Spears actually sounds happy, and in the photo shoot that accompanies the Bazaar story, she looks positively radiant.
