Justin Bieber's Early Drummer Days Featured In 'Never Say Never'

Friends and family talk about Bieber's evolution as a drummer in new clip from upcoming 3-D film.

The February 11 release of John Chu's 3-D doc "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never" is fast approaching, and in addition to the Biebs' many tweets about the flick, we now have another glimpse at what it has in store for eager fans. A new clip from the film shows how Bieber's talent for drums surfaced at a young age. It's also full of more cute Bieber baby videos.

"He never had any lessons or anything. I just never thought of it being anything other than for fun," Bieber's mother, Pattie Malette, says in the clip.

Bieber's drum collection quickly expanded from a handheld drum to a mini drum kit, and eventually, his family friends held a benefit concert and raised enough money to buy the young prodigy his own set of Pearl drums.

The 16-year-old pop star made waves at the 2010 VMAs when he rocked out on the drums during his amplified set. He also showed off his skills on the skins at the 2009 Jingle Ball in Sacramento, where he played an impressive drum solo during Cobra Starship's performance. Starship frontman Gabe Saporta, who had been trying to challenge Bieber to a dance off, tweeted after the fact, "Justin Bieber smoked me hard tonight. He couldn't win the dance off. But he shredded a gnarly drum solo. I back this kid on the real. Legit."

Bieber wouldn't be the first artist to start out behind the kit before his vocal capabilities propelled him to the spotlight. He joins the powerful ranks of drummers-turned-singers such as Dave Grohl, Phil Collins, Karen Carpenter, Ringo Starr and Tommy Lee.

Kanye West Turned Defiance Into Victory In 2010

Via Twitter, G.O.O.D. Fridays and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy 'Ye came out on top this year.

So, this Kanye West fella, you might have heard of him. He basically Swift-boated his career at the 2009 VMAs, went into a self-imposed exile and then triumphantly returned nearly a year later with what many have called the best album of 2010. Huh?

In just over 12 months, West baffled critics by going from zero to hero, while still lashing out at the media and, with stunts like his #kanyeshrug hashtag, essentially proving he's the same guy he always was.

"I think the thing with Kanye, he really just stuck to the same script, which is basically, Iove me or hate me but the music is gonna be so great you have to deal with me," Complex editor-in-chief Noah Callahan-Bever told MTV News. "And that's been the story of his career since the beginning. I think this year, he happened to be loved or hated in such extremes at the end of 2009, going on a self-imposed exile in Hawaii, he really created a currency in the intrigue with what he was doing."

What he was doing was assembling a barrage of hip-hop's best producers — including Q-Tip, the RZA, Pete Rock and more — and a diverse range of collaborators to help put together his artistic denouement: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The collection was bombastic musically and browbeating lyrically.

The first shot, "Power," was a sonic middle finger to his detractors. 'Ye looked at his life and career and took stock of his place in the pop-culture ranks. It was a manifesto, of sorts, in which West declared that he was aware of his flaws and mistakes but everyone else can take them or leave them.

"He really figured that great music will change things," RapRadar and RESPECT. magazine's Elliot Wilson explained.

It wasn't just the music, though, that helped Kanye come back into people's good graces once again. He took to Twitter to voice this thoughts, sometimes in amusing non sequiturs, sometimes in revealing bunches of dispatches came in bunches, like when he addressed, once and for all, the Taylor Swift incident.

In words that he couldn't seem to put to melody or properly convey to a talk-show host, West simply took responsibility, apologized and moved on to the next track. And then he proceeded to change the subject with his string of G.O.O.D. Friday releases online.

"He did select press but he made a lot of noise online," New York Times music critic Jon Caramanica said. "I think he understood quickly how to make the best use of that medium."

But what the critics and everyone who catches themselves constantly humming songs from Fantasy agree on is that "he really brought it all back to the music," as Callahan-Bever put it. "At the end of the day no Taylor Swift incident or 'Today' show appearance can take away from [that]."

Who Had the Highest-Grossing Concert Tour of 2010?

Who Had the Highest-Grossing Concert Tour of 2010?

While the concert business took a hit in 2010 (ticket sales dropped an estimated 12 percent from last year), some artists totally rocked it out on the road.

The Los Angeles Times reported the figures from Pollstar about which acts made the biggest impact touring this year, and it's a veritable mix of tried-and-true legends with hot up-and-comers.

Bragging rights for the highest-grossing concert tour of 2010 goes to none other than Bon Jovi, whose globe-spanning live shows helped them haul in more than $200 million ($108.2 million of which came from touring the U.S. alone)! Following close behind Bon Jovi were fellow 80's icons AC/DC at $177 million.

Bono's back problems didn't hinder U2 from having a hot year, as they came in third grossing $160.9 million. The unstoppable Lady Gaga finished #4 with $133.6 million in sales and hard rockers Metallica rounded out the top 5 after raking in more than $110 million.

Those weren't the only impressive numbers to come back from Pollstar regarding 2010's biggest tours though. Fans of the Dave Matthews Band made sure to catch the group jam out before taking a hiatus in 2011, as they sold 1.27 million tickets in North America (helping them bring in $72.9 million).

After DMB and Bon Jovi came pop sensation Justin Bieber, who sold roughly 987,000 tickets to screaming teens in the U.S. Meanwhile, John Mayer moved 894,000 tickets (with a final estimation of $49.9 million in sales) and 880,000 fans came out to see Brad Paisley.

However, living legends were the ones who seemed to make the biggest impact on the touring business this year. Roger Waters brought "The Wall" on the road much to the delight of Pink Floyd fans around the world, who shelled out $89.5 million to hear the classics.

Paul McCartney, always a big draw for the generation-spanning Beatles fans, averaged $3.86 million per night and had the 6th biggest North American tour of 2010 (the 42-show tour pulled in $61.8 million).

Also filling the seats in venues everywhere were Michael Bublé (who grossed $65.7 million), the Eagles ($64.5 million) and the Black Eyed Peas ($50.5 million).

Which bands/artists did you see in concert in 2010? Chime in below!

Free Jeans!

So I'm FINALLY getting around to giving away all those Gap 1969 jeans left over from my Gap party a year ago. I know, I know... no excuses as to why it has taken me so long to do this; I've just been busy, I guess. So, here's what I have:

I have nine pairs of Gap 1969 jeans, six certificates for a free pair of Gap 1969 jeans (redeemable in stores only), and one $50 gift card (redeemable online or in stores.)

All of the jeans are brand new, although they may have been tried on by someone at my party. In my opinion, they run a size too big, so if you're unsure how the new Gap jeans fit you, I'd go down a size. Please note, if you win a size that doesn't fit, I don't think you'll be unable to exchange them at a Gap store because they say "sample" on the inside tag.

A note on the jeans... I LOVE THEM. And I'm not just saying that. My favorite style is the Long & Lean, which are a wider leg/trouser-type jean. I don't have any L&Ls to give away, but you can find them in the stores. In the past year I've gone through about five pairs of them because I wear them every. single. day. No joke.

Okay, here are the style/sizes I have to give away:

Sexy Boot

Low Rise, Slim in the Hip and Thigh, Boot Cut Leg Opening

Medium Wash, Sizes:

  • 26/2L (I have 2 pairs of these)
  • 28/6L
  • 29/8L
  • 31/12L

Real Straight

Low Rise, Slim in the Hip and Thigh, Straight Leg Opening

Dark Wash, Size:

  • 27/4

Always Skinny

Low Rise, Skinny in the Hip and Thigh, Slim Leg Opening

Saturated Dark Wash, Sizes:

  • 27/4
  • 30/10
  • 31/12

And now, here is how you win. First, take note of the letter that corresponds to the item(s) you want to win.

  • A  -  $50 Gap Gift Card
  • B  -  Gift Certificate for One Pair of Gap 1969 Jeans (I have six)
  • C  -  Sexy Boot 26/2L (I have two pairs)
  • D  -  Sexy Boot 28/6L
  • E  -  Sexy Boot 29/8L
  • F  -  Sexy Boot 31/12L
  • G  -  Real Straight 27/4
  • H  -  Always Skinny 27/4
  • I  -  Always Skinny 30/10
  • J  -  Always Skinny 31/12

Next, leave a comment with your first name and last initial and the letter(s) of the item(s) you want to win.

Example:

Susie Q.

A, B, G

Important: Make sure you enter your email address in the email address box when leaving your comment; I will be the only one who will see it and it's how I'll get in touch with you if you win; it will not appear in the comment section.

And finally, please do not write something like "A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J" or "I want to enter to win everything!" next to your name. I know you don't wear a size 2 and a size 12, so let someone who actually wears the size win. It's not nice to be a contest piggy!

Okay, so I will close comments and pick winners randomly this Thursday 12/9 in the morning.

Good luck! I hope you win!

Happy Holidays!

Stephen Dorff Says Filming 'Somewhere' Was 'Pretty Extreme'

'It's the most naked part you could ever play,' Dorff says of his role in the Sofia Coppola-directed film.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Stephen Dorff
Photo: MTV News

For many moviegoers familiar with his work, Stephen Dorff is most recognized for playing dark, destructive and evil characters à la Deacon Frost in "Blade" — the role for which he took home an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain. His new movie "Somewhere," written and directed by Sofia Coppola, is a complete departure from much of his previous work, a role that required Dorff to step into new territories of both filmmaking and acting.

"This one was pretty extreme because [Coppola] wanted to experience some real-time acting on film," Dorff told MTV News of Coppola, whose unique directorial style involved getting lingering shots of his character just staring off in the distance or literally doing nothing. "So if I smoke a cigarette, that might be one line in the script but in the movie it might be five minutes, so it's very authentic," he added.

Dorff said the role of Johnny Marco, a disenchanted movie star and absent father to 11-year-old Cleo (played by Elle Fanning), was the most challenging of his career thus far.

"It's the most naked part you could ever play, really, because there's no plot driving the emotion," he said. "There's no explosions, nobody dying to trigger an emotional breakdown, there's no bank robbery. This is a film that's based on almost a portrait of a guy we open with, and we find the monotony in his life. Then when Elle comes into play, Cleo, it becomes really this movie about an adolescent father who needs a change in his life or he's headed for disaster."

Dorff described Marco as broken, lost, confused and bored with his life, until his daughter comes along and he starts to realize how spending time with her, actually being a father, makes him happy.

"While he's been going through that, he's missed probably three years of crucial time with his daughter and the fog starts to lift throughout the film," he explained. "He starts to see this beautiful girl and starts to get his act together."

"Somewhere" began a limited run in theaters on Wednesday.

Stephen Dorff Talks 'Somewhere,' Career Ups And Downs

'I thought I was a sell-out, playing a vampire,' the actor says about his memorable role in 'Blade.'
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Stephen Dorff
Photo: MTV News

Although his role in "Somewhere" was one of the most challenging of his career, Stephen Dorff is grateful to writer/director Sofia Coppola for giving him the opportunity to play a character who is a complete departure from the menacing, murderous types audiences are used to seeing him portray.

When MTV News caught up with the actor, he explained that "Somewhere" is the kind of independent art film he was most interested in at the start of his career — which has spanned more than two decades — but when Hollywood started calling, he reluctantly veered into bigger films playing bad boys and villains.

"[After the 1992 coming-of-age drama 'Power of One,'] Hollywood was coming to me, but I was kind of resisting," Dorff said of his early years in the business. "I really wanted to make art films. I loved working on movies like 'I Shot Andy Warhol' [and] 'S.F.W.' I liked doing edgier things. I was kind of into Nirvana, I was into rebelling against my childhood."

He added, "I wasn't really interested in playing vulnerable, sweet parts, like I played in 'Power of One' and 'Backbeat,' so in a way I think I did that to my own image. I kind of fought it. Then, when it came time to wanting to do [a sensitive role again], it wasn't necessarily there for me.

"Then 'Blade' came around and I thought that was the end of my career," Dorff admitted. "Because I thought I was a sell-out, playing a vampire."

Dorff said that those reservations eventually subsided and that he enjoyed making the action-horror flick.

"I had a good time with [director] Steve Norrington," Dorff said. "I knew he was talented. I had seen this little teeny movie he did and I knew this guy was going to make a good movie."

Dorff went on to say that now he feels that "Blade," as well as the first "Matrix" movie, were well ahead of their time with regard to what they opened up for filmmaking.

"Now we have so many comic-book movies and they're kind of regenerating the same movie," he explained. "In a way, there's not much originality to them. I like that we did ours earlier."

Dorff said that leading up to and after "Blade," he tried going for less dark roles, but that he couldn't resist opportunities to work with the likes of Jack Nicholson (1997's "Blood and Wine") and other great actors, so he became typecast.

"Up until now, really, this movie is the first time somebody like Sofia [Coppola] said, 'Well there's another side to Stephen, maybe he can play the leading man, maybe he can be a little sweeter and not have to kill everybody," Dorff suggested.

"It's nice that now I get texts after 'Somewhere' [that say,] 'You make such a good dad!' " he reveals about his family members' reactions to his performance in the film. "It's so different than 'Why were you so scary and mean?' "

Alanis Morissette Welcomes A Son

Singer and her husband, Mario 'Souleye' Treadway, welcome Ever Imre into their family.

Alanis Morissette welcomed a son over Christmas, People reports. Morissette and husband Mario "Souleye" Treadway named their boy Ever Imre.

"Alanis Morissette and Mario 'Souleye' Treadway welcomed a baby boy, Ever Imre Morissette-Treadway, on Dec. 25th," a rep for the singer told the magazine. "All are healthy and happy."

Morissette, who had a baby shower in October, announced she was pregnant in August. She took to Twitter at the time to share her excitement with the world. "Yes, happy news....i'm pregnant," she wrote. "We're so excited to start our family.... xo a."

Shortly after making the announcement, she stopped by "Chelsea Lately" and recalled how surprised she was when she found out she was expecting a baby. "I actually thought I wasn't," she told the talk-show host before recalling how the doctor broke the news to her, much to her own shock.

Morissette and Souleye married back in May in Los Angeles. She had previously been engaged to newly single Ryan Reynolds, whom she credited for changing her outlook on love in a 2004 interview.

"I'm ready to commit to someone and ready to do the work. And I'm ready to allow that part of myself to come out," she said. "I think for a long time, because of my compulsively wanting to be viewed as an überfeminist, I would really stay away from things like being a hopeless romantic, being dependent on a man, or even wanting to be with a man, frankly."

Share your well-wishes for Morissette and her family in the comments!

Dennis Hopper To Guru: A Look Back At Those We Lost In 2010

We bid farewell to celebrities who died this year, including Alexander McQueen, George Steinbrenner and Lena Horne.
By James Montgomery

Dennis Hopper
Photo: Mark Mainz/Getty Images

In 2010, we said goodbye to a variety of icons — stars of stage and screen, influential musicians and cultural figureheads. Some of them were gone too soon, others lived long and fruitful lives, but all will be missed. Luckily for us, they left behind work that thrilled and chilled, that made us laugh, cry, cheer and reconsider the world in which we live. It's a small comfort, but it's comfort nonetheless.

(For photos of the stars we lost this year, click here.)

And so, as we turn the page on the year that was, we'd be remiss if we didn't pause for a moment to reflect on some of the tremendous lives of those we lost. Among the notable people we bid farewell to: fashion designer Alexander McQueen, directors Blake Edwards and Arthur Penn, actors Lena Horne and Dennis Hopper, writer Harvey Pekar, and musicians Alex Chilton, Guru and Jay Reatard.

Consider it a final tribute. Or consider it our duty. After all, these were men and women who dedicated their time on earth to creating work of considerable import.

There was, of course, no "where were you when you heard the news?" passing this year — like Michael Jackson's death in 2009 — but that doesn't make the losses we suffered any less sad. In death, they reminded us of the way we were ... they gave us a chance to reminisce, to recall memories long dormant. Or they hinted at where we were heading ... sadly, they won't be there to see us arrive.

From Alex Chilton to George Steinbrenner (and many others who made indelible contributions during their lives), here's a look back at some of the remarkable people we lost in 2010.

Which celebrity's passing touched you the most in 2010? Tell us in the comments.

Gwyneth Paltrow Says Husband Chris Martin Is A 'Genius' Actor

'I don't think he would ever do it, but he's genius,' she tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Gwyneth Paltrow
Photo: MTV News

We know that Gwyneth Paltrow has the singing chops to portray a down-on-her-luck Nashville star in "Country Strong." But what MTV News didn't know was whether her husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, has what it takes to venture into the world of acting.

So we went straight to Paltrow and asked: Does Martin have acting skills as stellar as her singing talents?

"Definitely," Paltrow said of Martin's acting potential. "I don't think he would ever do it, but he's genius. Did you ever see him in 'Extras'?" Paltrow offered as proof. In his episode of the short-lived Ricky Gervais show, Martin guest-starred as an arrogant, exaggeratedly self-absorbed version of himself who tries to sneak a mention of a new Coldplay album into a public-service announcement about the need for clean drinking water.

Well, if Martin won't consider acting, might Paltrow consider doing a cover of a Coldplay song?

"Me? God no," Paltrow said. "No. We just can't, like, merge. His career is there and mine is there."

Don't count Paltrow out of the singing game yet, however. She did put some thought into what type of music she'd sing on an album of her own.

"I think if I was going to make a country record, it would be, like, a super-bare, kind of stripped-back kind of country," Paltrow explained. "Like a little bit of bluegrass-influenced kind of thing."

But Paltrow said she wouldn't necessarily limit herself to one genre, saying she really loved singing Cee Lo's "Forget You" on "Glee." "I also love singing '40s standards and stuff like that," she added.

Go for it, Gwyneth! And get your hubby to do some more acting while you're at it.

What would you prefer: a Gwyneth Paltrow album or Chris Martin acting? Tell us in the comments!

Paris Hilton Ex Doug Reinhardt Denies Sex Tape

Rep tells TMZ rumored tape 'doesn't exist and never existed.'
By James Dinh

With 2010 wrapping up, it appears Paris Hilton will end the year with just a little bit of controversy. Despite swirling online rumors that the socialite and her ex-boyfriend Doug Reinhardt filmed a sex tape, a rep for the former "Hills" star insisted it's just not true.

Speaking with TMZ, Reinhardt's rep Amanda Ruisi said, "Doug says a sex tape with Paris and him doesn't exist and never existed."

Reinhardt and Hilton began dating in early 2009 and had even contemplated marriage during their six-month relationship. In an interview with People magazine, the blonde bombshell appeared happy with her then-boyfriend.

"He makes me feel like I've never felt before," she told the mag. "Everything he does is romantic. He's amazing, and we're really happy. He's beautiful, he's smart, he's well-educated, and he treats me like a princess. We're just very much alike."

In June of '09, the couple called it quits. And while the duo reunited for multiple reconciliations, they eventually ended things for good. Rumors later surfaced that Hilton believed the "Hills" star was using her for her celebrity status.

The alleged sex tape isn't the only ordeal the 29-year-old heiress has faced in the past year. In July, Hilton was detained in South Africa during the World Cup on suspicion of marijuana possession. Just a month later, the reality-TV starlet was arrested in Las Vegas on charges of cocaine possession.

Hilton, who is celebrating the holidays with family in Hawaii, has yet to speak publicly about the rumored sex tape.

Stephen Dorff Says Filming 'Somewhere' Was 'Pretty Extreme'

'It's the most naked part you could ever play,' Dorff says of his role in the Sofia Coppola-directed film.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Paris Hilton Ex Doug Reinhardt Denies Sex Tape

Rep tells TMZ rumored tape 'doesn't exist and never existed.'

Congratulations, everyone!

For the people who didn't win, you will all be getting a boobie prize. Once I get all the jeans sent out, I'll contact you to get your address. Please note, boobie prizes will not be a photo of my boobies. They will, however, be something in my apartment that I don't want anymore... maybe a book or a CD or a vase with a cheetah design on it that my mom gave me a long time ago that I simply do not use.* Your boobie prize is to stay wrapped and under the tree until Christmas morning, at which point you may open it. I'm decluttering my apartment, so it's either you or goodwill, and to be honest, this seemed more fun.

God, I totally feel like Oprah right now.

(And honestly, would you rather win a trip to Australia or an Ally McBeal CD?** Because I have one of those and someone's going to get it.)

'Jersey Shore' Star DJ Pauly D Working On Spin-Off

MTV pilot was shot in September.
By Gil Kaufman

You may be seeing a lot more of "Jersey Shore" star Paul "DJ Pauly D" Delvecchio in 2011. MTV announced Wednesday (December 22) that the network has signed an option deal for a series starring the perfectly coiffed club kid that will look at the Providence, Rhode Island, native's life outside of the Shore.

A pilot of the show was shot by 495 Productions, the company behind "Shore," in September.

"At the heart of 'Jersey Shore' is the unique and genuine cast and Pauly D truly embodies both qualities," Chris Linn, executive vice president of programming and head of production for MTV, said in a statement. "He's distinguished himself onscreen as the fun-loving, well-coiffed and dependable guy you can't help but want to hang out with. We know viewers are curious about his life away from the shore and we look forward to exploring new possibilities around that."

Along with pals Snooki, the Situation and the rest of the "Shore" gang, Pauly has helped turn the show into a cultural phenomenon. The third season of "Shore" will kick off January 6.

Though he's the first "Shore" castmember to get a shot at a spin-off series, like his housemates, Pauly D has been keeping busy when not filming the MTV show. He dropped his first single, "Beat Dat Beat," last year and was nominated for the "America's Best DJ" competition for the second year in a row. He's also locked down a DJ residency in Las Vegas and will perform at "Disney's Grad Nite 2011" at Magic Kingdom Park.

But first, he'll be on hand on New Year's Eve with the gang to help ring in 2011 on MTV.

Don't miss "MTV New Year's Bash," starting at 10:30 p.m. ET on New Year's Eve!

New 'Your Highness' Trailer Arrives, Sadly Featuring Less Natalie Portman Butt Than First Trailer

When the red-band trailer for David Gordon Green's raunchy medieval romp "Your Highness" hit the Web in November, it was chock full of everything we'd hoped: anachronistic F-bombs, plenty of juvenile genitalia jokes and, in a most welcome turn of events, a lingering shot of Natalie Portman stripping down to a thong to bathe in [...]

'Tron Legacy' Director Contemplates Sequel 'Possibilities'

'I would definitely consider going back,' Joseph Kosinski says of possible third film.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

After "Tron Legacy" was crowned box-office king with a $43.6 million haul on its opening weekend, naturally the "Tron" talk shifts toward the sequel question. There's already a script in the works, so when MTV News had the chance to chat with one of the power players in the discussion — director Joseph Kosinski — we asked if he's thought about a sequel.

"Yeah, and I think we've created a world that has a lot of possibilities in it," he said. "It was important to me that we created those connections back to the original film. If audiences are interested in this movie and decide they want to go back, and we can find the right story and a way to push the envelope again, I would definitely consider going back."

In addition to bringing back stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde, one character that seemed as though he could have a part in the continuation of the story is the briefly appearing Edward Dillinger (played by Cillian Murphy), a rising star at ENCOM, the ominous tech company at the center of "Tron" mythos.

"I'm a big fan of his," Kosinski said when asked how Murphy joined the project. "I'd been talking to him about a way to get involved in the movie from the beginning, and this opportunity came up, so I asked him to be a part of it, and he was excited to do it," Kosinski explained. "So I'm thrilled to have him in there."

Wilde echoed Kosinski's sentiments regarding Murphy's brief performance.

"Cillian Murphy — we were so lucky to have in this film," Wilde said. "His part in 'Tron Legacy' is so mysterious and cool. His role really fits into the mythology of 'Tron,' the corrupt environment of ENCOM. It just shows you that this fight is far from over."

Wilde has also said that she'd be game for another "Tron" movie, particularly exploring how her character, Quorra, would adapt to the human world.

"I'm so thrilled to play with Quorra in the human world. It would be sort of like 'Splash,' " she said, referring to the '80s comedy starring Daryl Hannah as a mermaid unleashed in Manhattan. "I want to see her whispering to laptops and hugging toasters. ... There's a whole other chapter ahead."

Do you want to see a sequel to "Tron Legacy"? Do you want to see more of Cillian Murphy's character? Tell us in the comments!

'Spider-Man' Musical Director Speaks Out On Injuries

'An accident like this is obviously heartbreaking for our entire team,' Julie Taymor says in statement.
By Terri Schwartz

There's been a lot of negative press about Julie Taymor's Broadway musical "Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark," after a fourth castmember, aerialist and stunt double Christopher Tierney, was injured during a preview performance on Monday. A spokesperson for the show made a statement on Tuesday and the Actors' Equity Association spoke to MTV News about the show's streak of injuries. And now Taymor has commented about the show's continued bad luck.

"An accident like this is obviously heartbreaking for our entire team and, of course, to me personally," Taymor said in her statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "I am so thankful that Chris is going to be alright and is in great spirits. Nothing is more important than the safety of our 'Spider-Man' family and we'll continue to do everything in our power to protect the cast and crew."

Tierney's injury spurred the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Actors' Equity Association and New York State Department of Labor to meet with the "Spider-man" company on Tuesday and institute additional safety measures to prevent further injuries. But some other Broadway stars took to their social networking accounts to demand Taymor stop production on the $65 million musical.

"SPIDERMAN SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF ITSELF. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE AND EMBARRASSING TO WORKING ACTORS EVERYWHERE," Tony Award-winning actress Alice Ripley tweeted on Tuesday. "DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE? WHERE IS THE LINE FOR THE DECISION MAKERS, I AM CURIOUS."

"Rent" star Adam Pascal took to his Facebook page Tuesday and said, "I have to weigh in on Spiderman. They should put Julie Taymor in jail for assault! I know what it's like to fall and get hurt in front of 2,000 people. It's no fun, but at least it was the one time it happened. I hope whoever was hurt is ok and sues the sh-- out of Julie, Bono, Edge and every other a--hole who invested in that steaming pile of actor crippling sh--!"

Pascal toned down his anger and clarified his comments on Wednesday (December 22): "I think some of you missed the intended humor in my post, although my anger is real, I don't think anyone should sue Bono and the Edge you dummy! Or put Julie Taymor in jail you double dummy. I was making a point."

As of now, "Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark" preview performances are proceeding as planned, and the official Broadway opening date has been pushed back from January 11 to February 7. Wednesday's matinee was the only performance canceled due to Tierney's injury.

Do you think "Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark" should be canceled due to the danger involved? Tell us in the comments.
